Paint Protection Film FAQs
-
PPF stands for Paint Protection Film. This film is a virtually invisible, thin, yet durable film meant to protect your paint from chips, minor scuffs and scrapes, and other contaminants that may damage your paint.
-
We use Llumar Paint Protection Film
-
Yes, the film will heal light swirls and scratches with exposure to heat but does have its limitations and is not meant to be impenetrable. If that layer is penetrated, the film will not heal.
-
Yes, we prioritize efficient use of raw materials in our work. Many of our templates are customized and modified to minimize seams and edges, ensuring full coverage. In certain cases, we may apply a full, uncut sheet of film to a panel referred to as a 'bulk' installation which allows for greater customization.
-
Both paint protection film (PPF) and ceramic coatings are excellent options for protecting your vehicle’s paint. However, PPF is specifically designed to provide superior protection against impacts, whereas ceramic coatings primarily offer enhanced surface protection and durability.
-
Yes, however, we require that the vehicle not be washed for the first week following installation. Additionally, we strongly recommend avoiding automatic touch car washes, as the brushes used in these facilities can be abrasive and may cause the film to lift at the edges.
Ceramic Coating FAQs
-
Yes, although new vehicles are often assumed to have flawless paint, it’s common for them to have imperfections straight from the factory or to sustain damage during transit and dealership handling. Our paint correction process not only corrects these imperfections but also prepares the surface to ensure optimal bonding of the coating. Skipping this step can reduce the longevity and effectiveness of the coating.
-
A ceramic coating creates a highly durable protective layer over your vehicle’s clear coat, which is naturally soft and vulnerable. This layer helps resist damage from environmental contaminants that can degrade your paint. With proper care, ceramic coatings can last anywhere from 2 to 10 years.
-
No, ceramic coatings are not scratch proof, despite some marketing claims. While these coatings are very hard, they are also thin and designed to be scratch-resistant rather than scratch-proof. This means they can reduce the likelihood of visible swirling but cannot completely prevent scratches. For superior impact and scratch protection, Paint Protection Film (PPF) is the recommended option.
-
No, a ceramic coating is too thin to be able to absorb the impact of a rock chip without being damaged. If you’re looking for impact and scratch resistance, consider paint protection film.
-
No, we offer coatings specifically designed for automotive glass, leather interiors, wheels, brakes, and other surfaces. For more information about the specific areas we service, please call, email, or visit our shop.
-
While a ceramic coating offers greater chemical resistance than your vehicle’s paint, it is still possible to stain the coating if contaminants are not promptly removed. Although the coating resists etching for extended periods, it is not completely impervious.
-
Yes! The installation of a ceramic coating over your vinyl or PPF can provide the same incredible benefits you can expect from the same coating over your paint.
-
We strongly urge against the use of any automatic car wash after the application of a coating. As your paint will be nearly flawless, touch car washes will surely cause damage that would need additional paint correction to address. Touchless car washes may seem harmless; however, the chemicals used in touchless washes are very harsh and can drastically reduce the lifespan of your coating.
Paint Refinement FAQs
-
Paint refinement is the process of machine polishing your vehicle’s paint to remove light scratches and minor imperfections. This is achieved by carefully buffing the affected areas using specialized pads and compounds.
-
Yes, vehicles often do not leave the factory with flawless paint. Additionally, paint can be damaged or exposed to various elements during transportation or dealership preparation and washing. For these reasons, we require paint correction prior to the installation of any ceramic coating
-
Yes, prior to scheduling your appointment, we will ask to review the car in person. Please ensure that the vehicle is clean prior to coming by for a consultation to ensure that we can view the bare paint.
-
No, paint refinement is meant to refine the surface of your vehicle’s paint. We will happily address chips/deep scratches with touch up paint at your request, but this option is not included by default. We can also facilitate the removal of small dents through a third party
-
In many cases, we can significantly reduce or remove hard water spots; however, the process is time-consuming and depends on the severity of the damage. Using our specialized techniques and industry expertise, we assess each situation carefully to achieve the best possible results.

-
Generally, if a scratch appears white or gray in colour, or if you can feel it with your fingernail, it may be too deep to remove entirely. However, this doesn’t mean it can’t be improved. Our refinement process can often reduce its visibility and enhance the overall appearance.

Window Tint FAQs

-
We exclusively offer and install Llumar's full line of automotive window films. Contact us for details about heat rejection levels and available shades.
-
Most vehicles come with factory tinted glass, which is primarily designed for privacy rather than heat rejection. If you're looking to improve heat reduction or match the appearance, we can apply window film to the rear windows upon request

Depending on the service, installation can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours to complete.
-
Llumar Films are backed by a limited lifetime manufacturer's warranty, ensuring long-term protection and peace of mind.
